The Village Sound: The Ultimate Lost Playlist

With the end of the television series Lost, the airwaves have been deprived of one of network TV’s one true gems. However, there are many ways that fans of the series can remember the awesome power that was this television milestone. Sure, this can be limited to having marathons where you watch the DVDs one after another, you can read the tons of fan theories on the internet, hell you could also decide to write your own fan-fiction. However, one way that I’ve been dealing with a world without Lost is by making a playlist of music that was not only featured on the series, but embodies the themes present throughout. The Village Sound: Music Featured in “Chuck”

In my opinion, when it comes to network TV, it doesn’t get any better than NBC’s Chuck. One of the greatest aspects of the series is the music featured throughout the series. Unlike many other TV shows, which feature music in montages and during the closing credits, Chuck actually features the majority of it’s awesome music in the actual episodes. Continue reading

The Village Sound: Music Featured in “Californication”

Well…I have to say, one of my favorite television shows of all time is the Showtime series Californication. The series starring David Duchovney is one of the cable network’s biggest draws, and I can’t begin to tell you just how awesome it is. One of the biggest accomplishments of the series is the quality of music featured in the episodes. There are actually soundtracks available for all three seasons, but I looked through them and picked out my absolute favorite musical moments from the first three seasons of Californication. Hey villagers. For this week’s playlist I‘ve compiled a list of popular songs that have been covered by another artist or band. This list is in no specific order, nor is it a definitive list of covers. It’s just a list of some of my favorites that I think you may like. I have also realized as I’m making this list, that I heard a lot of these covers in movies or TV shows, so I’ve done my best to remember where I got each one. Enjoy! Continue reading

The Awesome Zombie: “5 Entertaining Ways To Prepare For The Zombie Apocalypse” by Flash

October 3, 2009, filed under Comics, DVD, Games, Movies.

Do you love zombies? Stop. It was a rhetorical question, of course you love zombies, the adorable little scamps. They get a bad rap because of the whole “undead abomination furiously eating the flesh of the living” thing, but I can’t fault them for that, I mean, they gotta eat something right? And let’s get one thing straight, right off the bat: the zombie apocalypse WILL happen, I couldn’t tell you when or how, but keep an eye on the old lady living across the street, I’ve seen her shambling around the neighborhood eying the playing children like they were a $40 filet minion and moaning all the while. It could just be the Alzheimer’s but you better keep your distance to be safe. This weekend’s release of the new movie (or should I say instructional video) Zombieland starring the ever-flowing cup of awesome that is Woody Harrelson, is the latest media attempt to keep us informed and educated on how to care for (or mercilessly slaughter) our zombie brothers, but it isn’t the first of its kind and certainly won’t be the last. Here I present the 5 best ways to prepare for the zombie apocalypse. This list spans all popular media including movies, video games, and comics to best ensure that this important information gets out to those who need it. Continue reading

The Village Sound: Playlist of the Week: Sept. 29, 2009

Hey villagers, Krycek here.  I’ve been asked to give ya’ll a cool playlist this week, and I certainly hope I don’t disappoint.  For my playlist, I’ve chosen the topic of movies.  Now, as long as movies have had sound, they’ve contained music.  In fact, many groups get themselves going by being included in a popular movie’s soundtrack.  So, I’ve created a playlist of really cool music included in movies, I… Continue reading

OK, here’s my dilemma; I beat the leader, credits roll, I probably get a PSN Trophy or XBOX LIVE Accomplishment for completing the game, and maybe even get a little bonus item for the next play-through; what do i do next?  I could go for another play-through, but considering I just beat this game that probably means I’ve been playing it nearly non-stop for the last several weeks or months… Continue reading

The Village Arcade – “Batman: Arkham Asylum” Review by PanTheMan

As a proud member of the Nerd Party, I find myself often compulsively buying things out of sheer fandom (As my “Kollector’s Edition” copy of Mortal Kombat VS DC will attest to). I found this true once again as I stood in line at 10pm, waiting for the midnight release of Batman: Arkham Asylum. As I walked out of the store holding my behemoth bat-symbol shaped copy of the game (yes I paid the extra $40 for a plastic batarang that can’t leave its base, a leather jacketed “journal” and a couple other goodies) I couldn’t help feeling like a kid at Christmas, my fandom was in full swing. Now 91% done with the game, I have a couple challenge maps to finish, I’m forced to suppress my inner comic book nerd and grade this game as exactly that, a game. Continue reading

The Village Arcade – Which Should YOU Buy? The Playstation 3 or XBOX 360?

August 27, 2009, filed under Games, News, Reviews.

You may not realize this, but a new momentous chapter in history began this past weekend. Sony’s Playstation 3, a system plenty of people were interested in but nobody wanted to buy has been transformed into a slimmer and cheaper version of it’s previously obese self. The new PS3 Slim was released at a cheaper and more competitively priced $299.00. That’s cool and all but that’s not the reality altering event to which I was refferring. See, it was also announced this past weekend that Microsoft’s XBOX 360 Elite, the mecca of XBOX 360′s with it’s larger hardrive oh so enviable black finish will also see a price drop in the near future. It’s new price? Why that’ll be $299.00. So for the first time in this console generation both of the “hardcore” gaming systems out there will be selling for the same, reasonably low price. The Village Arcade — “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” by Shern

August 26, 2009, filed under Games, Reviews
When one critiques a game, one often finds oneself ultimately looking at one thing: Am I still playing this friggin’ game? Some of the greatest games are the most graphically plain, yet as addictive as powdery countertops. Control? Such a relative term. And though we all naturally wish for games to look and feel as real as possible, that’s not what it’s always about. Take Mario, for example. Guys. Captain Lou Albano. ‘Nuff said. Continue reading

The Village Arcade – “inFamous” by Flash

I’ve noticed an interesting trend in the superhero video game genre; superhero games based around new IP’s are far superior to licensed superhero games. Sure, there are some pretty good games out there that let you live out your comic book fantasies like Spider-Man 2 or even the recent X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but games like Crackdown and Prototype; games based on brand new superhero type characters, blow them out of the water. inFamous is a shining example of that trend.
