Like the championship game two weeks ago, people are now leaving their homes and descending on the city awash in emotion made manifest as tears and smiles and handshakes. Everyone is a friend. Everyone is elated. Everyone is taking a moment to bask in the end of a long road and the achievement of the sweetest of dreams. Continue reading

As the ball cleared the goal posts, people got off their couch, walked outside, got into their cars and started driving. Not many of them knew where they were going. Some would end up in the French Quarter, hugging strangers and yelling until their voices succumbed to the strain, and others just drove around their neighborhoods, blowing their horns and yelling, “Who Dat,” to anyone within earshot. Continue reading

Like I did for Christmas, I have come up with a list of my favorite films to watch while celebrating the New Year. There are a lot of films that take place on New Year’s Eve, many about New Year’s Eve, while others merely take place at that time. The following list is my top 5 that I like to watch every year during that week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, when my Christmas movie marathon has come to an end. Pop some champagne and enjoy. Continue reading

Carlsberg’s Top 10 Unconventional Christmas Movies

Around this time of year, I like to start watching Christmas movies to get myself into the holiday spirit. I always watch the usuals: It’s a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, etc. But over the past several years I have also included what I call the “Unconventional Christmas Movies.” These are movies that take place at Christmas time, but, for whatever reason, are not actually about Christmas. I often get asked the question, “What is your favorite horror movie?” I find that that can be a loaded question. The horror genre is so wide that some films that I may consider great horror movies, some people may not have thought of that type of movie as even being “horror”. Continue reading

N.O.F.F. — Afterthoughts and Drinks with “The Scenesters” by Carlsberg

We had the chance to sit down for some drinks with three of the stars of The Scenesters: Todd Berger, Blaise Miller, and Jeff Grace. I must admit, these guys are the exact opposite of the pretentious hipsters in their film. They were, all three, some of the most down-to-earth, and genuinely funny people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. As we had a few drinks that night, each shared at least one anecdote about his experience in the film business, a few of which I thought you, the loyal Villagers, may enjoy. Continue reading

It isn’t unusual for certain filmmakers to blend genres. Without this we wouldn’t have romantic comedies, sci-fi thrillers, or dramedies. One of the most poplar hybrids of cinema, especially with cult moviegoers, is the horror/comedy. This week, the list of the great horror/comedies has grown by one with the release of the fantastic Zombieland. With this in mind, I’ve put together a list of my top ten horror/comedies of all time. The Awesome Zombie: “5 Entertaining Ways To Prepare For The Zombie Apocalypse” by Flash

October 3, 2009, filed under Comics, DVD, Games, Movies.

Do you love zombies? Stop. It was a rhetorical question, of course you love zombies, the adorable little scamps. They get a bad rap because of the whole “undead abomination furiously eating the flesh of the living” thing, but I can’t fault them for that, I mean, they gotta eat something right? And let’s get one thing straight, right off the bat: the zombie apocalypse WILL happen, I couldn’t tell you when or how, but keep an eye on the old lady living across the street, I’ve seen her shambling around the neighborhood eying the playing children like they were a $40 filet minion and moaning all the while. It could just be the Alzheimer’s but you better keep your distance to be safe. This weekend’s release of the new movie (or should I say instructional video) Zombieland starring the ever-flowing cup of awesome that is Woody Harrelson, is the latest media attempt to keep us informed and educated on how to care for (or mercilessly slaughter) our zombie brothers, but it isn’t the first of its kind and certainly won’t be the last. Here I present the 5 best ways to prepare for the zombie apocalypse. This list spans all popular media including movies, video games, and comics to best ensure that this important information gets out to those who need it. Continue reading

Why Aren’t They Bigger Stars? by Krycek

Hollywood is a funny place. Every day, hundreds and hundreds of actors bust their chops to deliver quality entertainment to the masses, and a very select few actually succeed. Even if a particular actor does succeed in becoming known, even fewer of them fall into the category of ‘stars’. This doesn’t mean that they’re bad actors, more times than not it just mean no one has given them the chance to truly shine. Continue reading

The Village Arcade – Which Should YOU Buy? The Playstation 3 or XBOX 360?

You may not realize this, but a new momentous chapter in history began this past weekend. Sony’s Playstation 3, a system plenty of people were interested in but nobody wanted to buy has been transformed into a slimmer and cheaper version of it’s previously obese self. The new PS3 Slim was released at a cheaper and more competitively priced $299.00. That’s cool and all but that’s not the reality altering event to which I was refferring. See, it was also announced this past weekend that Microsoft’s XBOX 360 Elite, the mecca of XBOX 360′s with it’s larger hardrive oh so enviable black finish will also see a price drop in the near future. It’s new price? Why that’ll be $299.00. So for the first time in this console generation both of the “hardcore” gaming systems out there will be selling for the same, reasonably low price. With the upcoming release of Inglorious Basterds, audiences everywhere are getting psyched for another awesome film by master Quentin Tarantino. Top Ten Brad Pitt Movies by Puddy

Inglourious Basterds comes out Friday so I thought it might be time to take a look at an actor who is very underrated. I’m talking about the dreamy Brad Pitt. Now a lot of people like to throw him into the category of movie star before they would call him an actor. True he has had his share of tabloid stories involving Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie(personally, I think he made the right choice) but this should in no way take away from the great performances he has given us. To prove my point here are my ten favorite Brad Pitt performances. Continue reading

We’ve all been there. It’s 10:45, none of your friends felt like going anywhere and you are too lazy to go to your DVD collection and commit to watching a movie for 2 whole hours. So you start flipping channels. You go around the horn once and maybe you stop on the Discovery Channel if it’s Shark Week. You notice Bret Michaels has a new group of skanks on VH-1. You stop and wonder why the “sci fi” channel is now called the”syfy” channel. Suddenly, you stop (probably on TNT, TBS or FX) and you start watching the movie you’ve been looking for. It may not be a good movie. But for some reason you happen to start watching and you can’t stop. I like to call these “Stop the Clicker Movies” and here are my fab 5. Continue reading
