TV Watch — “Californication: Comings & Goings/Mia Culpa”

CalifornicationsmallThe final two episodes featured the episode ‘Comings & Goings’ where Hank’s relationship with Karen and his trio of babes comes to a hilarious end. The episode is mostly utilized for laughs, and brings closure to this aspect of the season. We also get a new twist in the ongoing tale of the Runkles, where an offer on their home may be a monkey wrench into Charlie’s plan of reconciliation. Finally, season 3 ends with one of the most shocking episodes of the entire series with ‘Mia Culpa.’ As Hank prepares to leave L.A. for good in order to spend the rest of his life with Karen in Becca in New York, an old ghost comes back to bite him in the ass. While Hank struggles to keep his family together, Charlie is beaming over possibly reuniting with Marcy and foresees a future that may involve a little Runkle. Meanwhile, Charlie also receives an offer from Sue Collini that may be difficult to pass up. Continue reading

TV Watch — “Californication: The Apartment/Mr. Bad Example/Dogtown”

CalifornicationsmallHank Moody is in a strange place in his life. He’s currently sleeping with three very different women who appeal to different aspects of his personality. In the episode ‘So, Here’s the Thing…’ Hank decided to break it off with his Jackie, Jill, and Felicia in order to join up with “the soulmate” Karen when they move the family back to New York. Needless to say, Becca is absolutely furious with this decision, as for the first time in her life, she has a best friend. Continue reading

TV Watch — “Californication: So, Here’s the Thing…”

Hank attempts to prepare his various relations for his eventual journey back to New York. In this latest episode, ‘So Here’s the Thing…’, Hank has a chat with Charlie concerning Felicia, Jill, and Jackie and their reactions to his going back to New York with Karen. Hank feels that he can smooth things over with his trio of gals in one day with absolutely no problems. Elsewhere, Becca and Chelsea get into a bit of hot water when Hank discovers them doing some unsavory things in his house. Continue reading

TV Watch — “Californication: Verities & Balderdash”

With Hank nick deep into his new job, full of new teachers and students to interact with, this season of Californication is moving full speed ahead, and this ride is downright fantastic. After the last episode, showcasing Hank’s first real problem with his new job, and Charlie’s problems at home, the latest episode ‘Verities & Balderdash’ showcases Hank’s interactions with his colleagues as opposed to his relationship with his students last week. Just as last week’s episode featured Charlie’s home life falling apart, this week shows that his professional life is beginning to rise. Continue reading

TV Watch — “Californication: The Land of Rape and Honey”

After the awesome season 3 premier of this fantastic Showtime series setting the bar extremely high, Californication has moved right along, getting into the real plotline of this new season. With the second episode, entitled ‘The Land of Rape and Honey’, The series starts to get into the main story that season 3 is going to revolve around.

Here, Hank has started his teaching gig, and is discovering just how complicated being a mentor truly is. On the other hand, Runkle is having some problems of his own, as he adjust to his new living arrangement with Marcy, and he has an interesting day at the office. Continue reading

TV Watch — “Californication: Wish You Were Here”

In the world of cable television, when it comes to original programming, HBO has been king. However, the Showtime network has been giving the king a run for its money lately with some fairly spectacular shows. Well, after a long wait, Hank Moody is back with Californication’s third season, and I must say, it was honestly one of the funniest, smartest, and most well written shows I’ve ever seen. DVD Watch — “Californication” Season 2

Recently, have you ever been channel surfing on network TV and just become completely amazed at just how much crap is on? Seriously, it didn’t seem that long ago that you could sit back and flip on the tube and watch some quality programming on ABC, NBC, Fox, etc… While al the major networks have been overrun by reality shows, all the major talent has migrated to the land where rating do not necessarily rule: cable. With the release of HBO’s The Sopranos in 1999 it was discovered that audiences really do want quality programming, even if it is on pay TV. Although it came in second to HBO, the Showtime network has thrown it’s hat into the original series arena and recently has begun to give HBO a run for it’s money when it comes to quality programming. With hits shows such as Dexter and Californication, Showtime is becoming a force to be reckoned with. With the DVD release of Californication’s brilliant second season, more and more viewers are being exposed to this phenomenal series. Continue reading
