In the fallout of the soon to be concluded The Siege mini-series, Marvel Comics is canceling all Avengers titles and relaunching them as new series. One of the most talked about, due to a teased at mystery roster, is Ed Brubaker and Mike Deodato’s Secret Avengers. The series will find Steve Rogers, former Captain America and now code-named Super Soldier, leading a team of Avengers with a unique skill set including War Machine, Moon Knight, Valkyrie, and Nova. J. Michael Straczynski’s run on The Amazing Spider-Man was a long, and controversial one. His tenure held as many acclaimed elements as it did bones of contention for fans including Aunt May discovering Peter Parker was Spider-Man, a mystical slant put on the title character’s power set, the revelation that his long dead love had fathered a set of twins with his greatest enemy, and finally the story arc titled One More Day.
Matt Idelson, Superman Group Editor, announced today on the DC Comics website that writer Marc Guggenheim, originally slated to be writing Action Comics after James Robinson’s departure, would not be writing the title. Guggenheim was set to take over the title in June with interior art by Pete Woods and cover art from the recently DC exclusive artist David Finch. The choice to replace Guggenheim is said to be an organic one. Continue reading
Marvel plans to shake up its Avengers line of titles this April. At the end of it’s current, status quo shaking mini-series called Siege, Marvel comics will cancel all four of its Avenger titles: New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Dark Avengers and Avengers: The Initiative. Continue reading
DC Comics have announced today via their Source Blog that, starting in 2010, they will begin publishing new adventures of Superman and Batman under the Earth One banner in an exclisive Graphic Novel format. This will be the first time that the tales of the World’s Finest will be presented in such a way and DC is taking the opportunity to mix things up. Superman is coming to us from fan-favorite writer, J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5) and on-the-rise penciler Shane Davis (Superman / Batman) and the creative team in charge of Batman will be Geoff Johns and Gary Frank, the team currently responsible for updating Superman’s DC Universe origin in Superman: Secret Origin.
