DVD/Blu-Ray Watch: Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen

Kids, Strider doesn’t really like to be so horribly wrong. I hate when people squat over my childhood and expel the contents of their bowels all over those memories, but that’s what I’ve been getting a lot of lately and it culminates with the monstrosity that is Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen. DVD/Blu-Ray Watch: Superman/Batman: Public Enemies

When people make lists of the greatest superheroes I don’t think you can reasonably declare anyone but Superman and Batman as a tie for first place. Maybe they should recuse themselves. After all, if it wasn’t for those two characters, there would arguably be no superheroes today. They started it all. They are the archetypes for everyone that comes after. Some elements of either one or both of these heroes exist in everyone from Spider-Man to Wolverine. That being said, I was pumped for a movie containing both of these characters and based off a popular comic series that I read issue by issue upon their release. Continue reading

The Awesome Zombie: “5 Entertaining Ways To Prepare For The Zombie Apocalypse” by Flash

Do you love zombies? Stop. It was a rhetorical question, of course you love zombies, the adorable little scamps. They get a bad rap because of the whole “undead abomination furiously eating the flesh of the living” thing, but I can’t fault them for that, I mean, they gotta eat something right? And let’s get one thing straight, right off the bat: the zombie apocalypse WILL happen, I couldn’t tell you when or how, but keep an eye on the old lady living across the street, I’ve seen her shambling around the neighborhood eying the playing children like they were a $40 filet minion and moaning all the while. It could just be the Alzheimer’s but you better keep your distance to be safe. This weekend’s release of the new movie (or should I say instructional video) Zombieland starring the ever-flowing cup of awesome that is Woody Harrelson, is the latest media attempt to keep us informed and educated on how to care for (or mercilessly slaughter) our zombie brothers, but it isn’t the first of its kind and certainly won’t be the last. Here I present the 5 best ways to prepare for the zombie apocalypse. This list spans all popular media including movies, video games, and comics to best ensure that this important information gets out to those who need it. Continue reading

DVD/TV Watch: “Castle” Season 1 Review and Episodes 2.1 & 2.2 Recap

I’m happy to say that Castle is one of those shows (along with one of my personal favorites, Chuck) that was on the bubble at the end of last year and for which the fans, after a lot of petitioning, were eventually graced with another season. The first season of Castle is now available on DVD, so here is a little rundown of the show, which, if you haven’t seen yet, I highly recommend getting started. Continue reading

DVD Watch- “Observe and Report” Review by Puddy

Seth Rogen stepped out of his comfort zone in 2009 with the release of Observe and Report, which comes out this week on DVD and Blu-Ray. Whenever I bring up Seth Rogen I get a lot of people tell me how much they love him and a lot of people tell me they hate him. To be honest I don’t feel either way about him, although I’m leaning towards liking him. His films have been absolutely awesome from Pineapple Express to Knocked Up. Continue reading

DVD Watch: The Big Bang Theory: Season 2 review

There have been many times I’ve watched a sitcom that’s had its horn tooted by critics or people I know. I’ll sit down to watch it, popcorn and soda in hand and I turn the TV to the show in question and…I am confused. A lot of times there is little original in comedy. A lot of things are derivative or humor is low brow and yes, I realize that I am applying an analytical thought process to comedy and if you caught that, you should watch The Big Bang Theory. DVD Watch-”Next Day Air” by Puddy

I’m pretty sure if you are visiting our awesome site you would not want to see Next Day Air. In case you are uncertain, please allow me to convince you to stay away. Continue reading

Blu-Ray/DVD Watch: The Office Season 5

You can typically tell what kind of sense of humor a person has by whether or not they watch The Office. Most of the time, those that “don’t get it” view Larry the Cable Guy as the highest form of art. The Office is often dry humor at its finest, but to only classify it like is to miss out of the very wide range of comedy you get on the show. Continue reading

DVD Watch — “Fringe” Season 1

When it comes to projects, both television and film, no one is hotter right now than J.J. Abrams. Lately, Abrams has been praised highly for his work on this year’s Star Trek, which is one of the most successful films of the year. However, before Abrams went where no man has gone before, he was, and still is, one of the foremost pioneers on television. Starting with Felicity and Alias, Abrams quickly gained much deserved praise for his talents as a storyteller. Then in 2004, Abrams created one of the most original TV series of all time with Lost. After the phenomenon which is Lost became as huge as it currently is, everyone was wondering what was up next for Abrams and his Bad Robot crew. Well, to the delight of audiences everywhere J.J. Abrams has given audiences everywhere another fantastic series with Fringe. Continue reading

Blu-ray/DVD Watch: “Fighting”

Fighting is exactly the movie I thought it would be. Fighting is contains dialogue I thought it would have. Fighting contains the quality of performances I thought it would have. It’s like a cinematic dental appointment. I went because I was supposed to and I felt uneasy the entire time. Continue reading

DVD Watch — “Heroes” Season 3

After the strike shortened 2nd season, Heroes returned with much fanfare with its 3rd season. Much as season 2 was intended to be, season 3 of Heroes was split into 2 chapters. The first half of the season, entitled “Villains” had the potential to be the coolest chapter in the saga, but wasn’t quite there. The second half of season 3, entitled “Fugitives” was a vast improvement, and gives hope to the upcoming season 4. The newly released DVD/Blu-ray set of this 3rd season of Heroes shows the peaks and valleys of network TV. Continue reading

Blu-Ray/DVD Watch: “Adventureland”

Maybe there is a way I can sue Miramax for false advertising. Hear me out on this. I watched the trailer for Adventureland prior to it’s release in theaters and was ready for a comedy. Continue reading

DVD Watch — “Californication” Season 2

Recently, have you ever been channel surfing on network TV and just become completely amazed at just how much crap is on? Seriously, it didn’t seem that long ago that you could sit back and flip on the tube and watch some quality programming on ABC, NBC, Fox, etc… While al the major networks have been overrun by reality shows, all the major talent has migrated to the land where rating do not necessarily rule: cable. With the release of HBO’s The Sopranos in 1999 it was discovered that audiences really do want quality programming, even if it is on pay TV. Although it came in second to HBO, the Showtime network has thrown it’s hat into the original series arena and recently has begun to give HBO a run for it’s money when it comes to quality programming. With hits shows such as Dexter and Californication, Showtime is becoming a force to be reckoned with. With the DVD release of Californication’s brilliant second season, more and more viewers are being exposed to this phenomenal series. Continue reading

DVD Watch — “Sunshine Cleaning”

When you’re looking for a particular type of movie to sit back and relax with, they are certain movies made to stay away from, and other that would perfectly fit the bill. It doesn’t matter if they’re good or bad movies, if I’m looking for something to chill and watch, I wouldn’t pick up Bad Boys II, just as I wouldn’t pick up Blade Runner, there just are times when you want a nice slice of life character piece that’s charming and entertaining. Examples of this type of movie are Waitress, Little Miss Sunshine, and the new DVD release of Sunshine Cleaning. Continue reading

Blu-Ray/DVD Watch: Smallville: Season 8

I suppose that if I look at the situation long enough I can honestly say that the main reason I’ve stuck by Smallville for eight seasons is just that I’m a whore for anything Superman. The show can be good at times, great at others, but mainly hangs around the neighborhood of mediocrity where it seems to have spent a long time paying rent. Continue reading

DVD Watch – “Dexter” Season 3

With the third season DVD release of the Showtime hit Dexter, audiences get a whole new chapter in the life of everyone’s favorite vigilante serial killer. Continue reading

DVD Watch — “The Last House on the Left ’09″

In 1972, a promising young filmmaker by the name of Wes Craven shocked audiences all over the world with his debut film called The Last House on the Left. The film was so violent and disturbing, it was banned in countries all over the globe. In fact, it wasn’t until 2004, that the film could finally be seen in Australia. Craven’s original vision of mixing Vietnam-like torture scenes with slapstick comedy and brutality made The Last House on the Left a true pioneer in horror films. As effective as the 1972 version of the film is, it’s dated material and shoestring budget made it ripe for a remake. The 2009 version of The Last House on the Left recaptures the intensity and brutality of the 1972 version in a way that I didn’t think was possible in today’s movie climate. Continue reading

DVD Watch – “The Simpsons” Season 12

Every time a season of The Simpsons is released on DVD, there is invariably someone who makes the statement: “It’s after this that the series begins to go downhill. Continue reading

Awesome Special Features: “The Mist” Black & White Cut

One of the coolest, craziest and scariest horror movies to come out in recent years is director Frank Darabont’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Mist. Darabont has had previous success adapting King books with The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, but with The Mist he tackles one of King’s horror stories, and created a very effective fright-fest with one of the creepiest ending’s I’ve ever seen.
However, for a completely alternate take on this movie, Darabont has included a black & white cut of the film on the collector’s edition DVD and Blu-Ray of the film. What you would think to be such a simple edit completely changes the viewing experience of the film. The movie is transformed into a classic 1950’s monster movie. Darabont does amazing things with shadows and lighting that are vastly showcased in the black & white cut. Continue reading

DVD Watch — “Dollhouse” Season 1

Anyone who follows the entertainment industry knows that Joss Whedon has some of the most loyal fans around. From Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel all the way to Firefly, the “Whedonites” have stuck with Joss through thick and thin. So, when news came about that Whedon had a new show on the way starring Buffy and Angel vet Eliza Dushku, excitement was everywhere. Then the news came out that Fox had scheduled Dollhouse to air in its Friday Night Cancellation Spot. The excitement turned to concern. Dollhouse premiered and it obtained a cult following, but the ratings for the show were never good. Amazingly, Dollhouse was renewed for a second season, appeasing Joss Whedon’s legion of fans. With the DVD release of Season 1, it is pretty obvious why this show has such a loyal fan base and why Fox decided to stick with the Dollhouse. Continue reading

DVD Watch — “The Spectacular Spider-Man” Season 1

I can remember leaving the theater after Spider-Man 3 and thinking I’d never seen a depiction of a character start off so right and veer so terribly in the wrong direction. At the core, Spider-Man shouldn’t be a hard character to wrap one’s gray matter around and, much to my surprise and delight, a cartoon has once again come around to show people how it should be done. Continue reading
